Albuquerque Isotopes second baseman Alex Castellanos has been named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for games beginning on April 16 and continuing through April 22 after a torrid week that saw him bat .440. The infielder is the first Isotopes player to earn the PCL's weekly accolade in 2012.
In six games, Castellanos racked up 11 hits in 25 at-bats while posting a 1.120 slugging mark. He also led the league with four homers, including two in one game at Oklahoma City on Saturday, and drove in eight, third most in the PCL for the week.
This is the first PCL honor for Castellanos, who is flourishing in his Triple-A debut, batting .371 and leading the league in extra base hits (15), runs scored (18), triples (4), and total bases (53).
