The Chicago Cubs signed Amaya on July 9, 2009 out of his native Venezuela. The 19-year-old made his pro debut in the Dominican Summer League in 2010. Last year, he played for Mesa in the Arizona Rookie League and batted .377 (77-for-204) with 37 runs scored, 11 doubles, eight triples, 36 RBI, and 13 stolen bases in 52 games. He led the league in hits, finished second in batting average, and tied for third in triples.
The Cubs and River Cats play game two of their four-game series today at 3:05 Central time. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 with the pre-game show starting at 2:45.
