Having tossed 6.0 perfect innings in that outing, in which he recorded a career-high seven strikeouts, Pena has been recognized as the South Atlantic League's Pitcher of the Week for May 7-13.
On the year, Pena is 2-2 in six appearances (five starts) with a 1.72 ERA (6 ER/31.1 IP), 29 strikeouts and three base on balls. A 6th round selection in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, Pena leads all Sally League hurlers in WHIP (0.83), and ranks 4th in the circuit in ERA.
Opposing teams are hitting just .207 (23-for-111) off the left-hander, with a pair of homers. Pena made his 2012 debut on April 10th out of the bullpen, earning the win, before joining the rotation on April 15th.
Pena is the second Drive pitcher to take home the league's weekly honors, joining right-hander Matt Barnes who earned the accolades after the first week of the season.
