National Kidney Foundation representatives on hand for this event will include Washington Redskins Defensive Back, Reed Doughty, who is an avid supporter of the organization. Doughty will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the contest and sign autographs during the game.
Doughty's son was born with kidney failure, endured 10 months of dialysis, then at the age of 18 months, received a transplant with a kidney donated by his mother. According to Doughty, "My son's kidney failure was not preventable, but for many Washington area residents it is. That's why I'm on a mission to educate people about risk factors and early detection of kidney disease."
Additional to be determined Redskins players will also be on hand to support the cause. Potomac Nationals 35th Anniversary commemorative game-used autographed jerseys from the first half of the 2012 season will be auctioned off after the twinbill to raise funds for continued kidney disease research.
"The Potomac Nationals are excited about the growth of their partnership with the National Kidney Foundation to raise awareness and funds to support a great cause on the 8th of June. We can't thank the NKF and Reed Doughty enough for making our game so special. We are encouraging fans to wear Redskins jerseys that night to show their support for Reed and his ongoing effort with The NKF," said Potomac Nationals General Manager, Josh Olerud.
