At 2 pm on Tuesday, June 19, the RiverDogs will begin their unique version of FanFest that is sponsored by Rick Hendrick Jeep Chrysler Dodge with a parade that will be led by its grand marshal, Bill Murray, who, within the previous hour will have been enshrined in the league's Hall of Fame.
Murray will lead a procession that begins at the Charleston Marriott on Lockwood Blvd., and will show the way to the free FanFest that will be held in front of Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
The parade will consist of dancers, Little League baseball players, the music of the Charleston Police Pipes and Drums, General Dynamics Cougar and Buffalo vehicles, fire trucks, media vehicles and, of course, the participants in the All-Star Game that will begin at 7:30 pm at Riley Park.
FanFest begins at 2:30 and will be held on the grass area near the front of the park and close to Brittlebank Park. The All-Stars will sign free autographs from 2:30-3:30 in the area, but in traditional RiverDogs fashion, that isn't all.
Included in the festivities will be an inflatable jump castle, a slide and speed pitch in addition to face painting and a balloon artist. Other highlights include an interactive video game truck, a photo booth, inflatables, a variety of dance companies, an assortment of mascots, food vendors and merchants that will provide haircuts, massages and interactive games. The crowd pleasing antics of the Inflatamaniacs will also be on hand.
There will also be the In-Town Cash grab truck, where lucky fans can walk away with cash.
"FanFest is part of the overall presentation that the RiverDogs are showcasing as we proudly host the 53rd Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game," said General Manager Dave Echols. "We planned a special time for the players, but we also wanted to make a unique time for the fans as well."
Following FanFest, fans with tickets to the All-Star Game may enter Riley Park at 4 pm as both teams will have batting practice that fans will enjoy watching. After the batting practice sessions, the final round of the Home Run Derby begins. The preliminary round of the derby will take place a day earlier on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. Both rounds of the Home Run Derby are being sponsored by Miller High Life.
There is no admission charge to attend the FanFest; however, there will be a fee for food and drinks.
The All-Star Game is sponsored by General Dynamics - Force Protection Industries, Inc. and the Charleston Restaurant Association.
