AUBURN, N.Y. - The Auburn Doubledays (5-3) put up seven runs in the bottom of the second to cruise to a 7-2 victory over the Jamestown Jammers (3-5) on Monday night at Falcon Park. The seven runs is the most the Doubledays have scored in an inning this season.
The big inning for Auburn began with a line drive single up the middle by RF Angelberth Montilla. After SS Steven Perez popped out, 3B Carlos Lopez walked to put runners at first and second with one out. Left fielder Wilson Ramos then drove Montilla home from second with a double to center field. Both Lopez and Ramos scored on a single to center field by DH J.R. Higley, who came up with the bases loaded after catcher Craig Manuel had also walked.
With three runs already across the plate in the inning, a fielding error by Jammers SS Yeison Hernandez on a ball hit by Doubledays 2B Tony Renda allowed two more runs to score, to make it 5-1 Auburn. Renda ended up scoring on a single by 1B Shawn Pleffner (the hit extended Pleffner's hitting streak to eight games), and Pleffner scored the final run of the inning on a single by Perez in his second at bat of the frame.
In total the Doubledays sent 11 men to the plate in the second inning, scoring the seven runs on six hits and one error. All seven runs were given up by Jamestown starter RHP Mason Hope (0-1), who lasted four innings giving up seven hits total and walking four. LHP Gregory Baez (1-0) got the win for Auburn, going five innings and surrendering just one unearned run on four hits while walking two and striking out five.
The Doubledays continue their three game series with the Jamestown Jammers on Tuesday, June 26. Auburn will send LHP Blake Monar (0-1) to the mound for his second start of the year.
