Blue Jays top prospect Travis d'Arnaud will miss six to eight weeks after tearing the posterior cruciate ligament in his knee while playing for Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.

d'Arnaud, MLB.com's No. 20 overall prospect, suffered the injury sliding into second base.

The 23-year-old catcher was examined in Las Vegas by Dr. Bernard Ong, who sent the MRI results to Dr. Steve Mirabello in Florida. He confirmed the original diagnosis, Blue Jays manager John Farrell told MLB.com.

"These cases are typically six to eight weeks, and at this point everybody -- everybody being Dr. Mirabello and Dr. Ong, who examined him in Las Vegas -- [said] it is a non-surgical rehab," Farrell said.

The California native singled in his first at-bat against Sacramento River Cats starter Graham Godfrey and was forced at second when Travis Snider bounced into a fielder's choice. d'Arnaud was replaced by Paul Phillips the following inning.

The injury means the 51s catcher almost certainly will miss both the Triple-A All-Star Game and the All-Star Futures Game next month. The 23-year-old led Pacific Coast League catchers in fan balloting for the Triple-A All-Star Game and already had been selected to the U.S. squad for the Futures Game in Kansas City.

d'Arnaud is hitting .333 with a .380 on-base percentage, 16 homers and 52 RBIs in 279 at-bats with Las Vegas. Selected by the Phillies with the 37th overall pick in the 2007 Draft, he was traded to Toronto in the 2009 trade for Roy Halladay.

d'Arnaud was coming off a breakout season in which he was named Eastern League MVP after batting .311 with 21 homers and 78 RBIs for Double-A New Hampshire.
