Ems Continue Dominance Over Salem-Keizer
06/27/2012 9:21 AM ET

After a series opening 10-7 victory Monday night, the Ems opened up with 5 hits in the first inning scoring three runs on RBI singles from Jeremy Baltz, Goose Kallunki and B.J. Guinn. River Stevens thought he had an RBI single as well but Volcanoes Right Fielder Andrew Cain made a nice throw to cut down Dane Phillips trying to score from second base.

The Ems got another run in the top of the 3rd after a leadoff double from Baltz who then scored on throwing error committed by Salem-Keizer starting pitcher Joan Gregorio.

In the fourth it was a 2 out rally for Eugene. After a leadoff single and a stolen base from Stephen Carmon it took until 2 outs for Jeremy Baltz to drive him in with a single to right center. Dane Phillips drew one of his 3 walks of the season and scored on a River Stevens single and the Ems led it 6-0.

In the bottom of the 4th Salem-Keizer's Cain reached on an error, one of five on the night committed by Eugene. The next batter Stephen Yarrow singled him in from second base and the Volcanoes notched their only run of the game on their first hit of the contest.

Out of the Salem-Keizer bullpen Mason Mcvay came on for the 7th and 8th innings. The 6'7" lefty got the first man he faced, then committed a fielding error followed by a walk. He then proceeded to strike out five straight Emeralds including the side in order in the 8th.

As the Emeralds were trying to finish out the victory a bank of lights mysteriously went out behind home plate delaying the game for roughly 10 minutes. Matt Shepard came on to close out the win for Brandon Alger and the Emeralds moved to 7-5 on the year and remain 2 games back of Everett in the NWL western division.
