JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The Auburn Doubledays (9-5) couldn't overcome a five-run first inning by the Jamestown Jammers (5-9) on Sunday, as they fell in the first game of a three game series 7-1.

The five run first saw the Jammers bat around, sending 10 men to the plate. They scored the five runs on five hits, four of them doubles. All five runs were charged to Doubledays starter LHP Gregory Baez (1-1), who left the game after recording just one out in the first. Beaz's replacement, LHP Elliott Waterman, ended up walking the first three batters he faced before inducing an inning-ending double play.

Auburn tried to rally back in the top of the seventh when 3B Kayyan Norfork walked to lead off the inning, and LF Jordan Poole then doubled to right to put runners on second and third with no one out. A ground out to second by CF Wes Schill plated Norfork to make it a 5-1 game, but that would be the only run the Doubledays would manage to get on the board in the inning.

Jamestown answered right back with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame thanks to back-to-back-to-back singles by the two, three, and four hitters in the lineup. They tacked on another run for good measure in the eighth on a sac fly to center by 2B Pedro Mendoza. When all was said and done the Jammers seven runs had come on 15 hits, compared to just one run on four hits for Auburn.

Getting the win for Jamestown was RHP Ryan Newell (1-1), who pitched two innings without allowing a run on one hit and two walks. RHP Blake Logan started for Jamestown and went three innings without giving up a run or a hit.

The Doubledays and Jammers will square off again in game two of the series on Monday, July 2. Auburn will send LHP Blake Monar (0-1) to the mound for his third start of the year. He will square off against RHP Matt Milroy (0-1) for Jamestown. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm. All Doubledays road games can be heard on WAUB 98.1FM and 1590AM, and online at www.fingerlakesdailynews.com by clicking on the WAUB stream under the "listen" tab.
