San Antonio, TX- The San Antonio Missions defeated the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 4-2 on Wednesday night at Wolff Municipal stadium. The victory gives the Missions a three-game sweep of the Naturals.
The Naturals (41-42) got on the board first in the top of the first inning. Brian Fletcher blasted an offering from Missions' starter Andrew Werner over the left field fence to make it 1-0. The home run was the first in Double-A for Fletcher. Werner went six inning for the Missions allowing just four hits and two runs.
The lead though, was short lived. The Missions answered with a solo home run of their own, in the bottom of the inning, from first baseman Nathan Frieman to tie the game at one. The home run was Frieman's team leading 17 of the season.
Fletcher scored another run for the Naturals in the top of the fourth inning. This time he reached on a single, and later scored when Mario Lisson grounded into a double play to put the Naturals up 2-1.
The Missions (39-43) retied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning getting an RBI double from Frieman. Those two runs were all the Missions would manage against the Naturals' starter Chris Dwyer.. Dwyer went six innings allowing six hits and two runs, while striking out five.
The game-winning hit turned out to be a two-run single by Jonathan Galvez in the bottom of the seventh inning. Both runs were charged to the Naturals' Ryan Dennick (4-2). Eddie Kunz (1-1) working one inning of relief and allowing just one hit. Daniel Stange worked around a lead off single by Rey Navarro, in the ninth inning, to earn his second save of the season.
The Naturals will open up a three-game homestand against the tomorrow night at 7:05 PM against the Corpus Christi Hooks. The Naturals will send Noel Arguelles (2-8, 6.62) against the Hooks Bobby Doran (2-0, 6.55) The game can be heard on ESPN 92.1 The Ticket.
