Other nominees for Batter of the Month were outfielder Kyle Waldrop and first baseman Sean Buckley. Other nominees for Pitcher of the Month were Radhames Quezada and Cole Green.
Silva and Allen will be honored tonight during an inning break of the Dragons game. There will also be a Player of the Month luncheon tomorrow (Friday) at 12:00 noon at McDonald's, 3411 York Commons Boulevard near Miller Lane. Fans may attend to ask questions to the winning players and receive autographs. The players will be available to the media for interviews.
Silva batted .375 with seven doubles, three home runs and a team-leading 15 runs batted in during June. He also tied for the team lead in extra base hits with 11 and stolen bases with seven. Silva is a 21-year-old native of Puerto Rico who was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the ninth round of the 2009 draft.
Allen posted a record of 4-0 with a 0.63 earned run average over seven relief appearances in June. He allowed just one earned run in 14.1 innings. He is 22 years old and a native of St. Charles, Missouri. He played collegiately at Kansas State University and was the Reds 7th round draft pick in 2011.
