Bluefield game suspended in first

July 9, 2012
Burlington and Bluefield were suspended in the bottom of the first inning tonight due to severe thunderstorms. The teams will make the game up as part of a doubleheader in Bluefield on August 10.

Bluefield went up early in the first when Christian Lopes hit an RBI double. Chris Peters scored from first to give the Blue Jays the initial lead.

The Royals countered with back-to-back singles to open up their first. Terrance Gore hit a ground ball up the middle, then moved to third on a base hit to left by Humberto Arteaga. The game was then promptly suspended due to the inclement weather.

When the game picks up again in Bluefield on August 10, Bubba Starling will come to the plate with runners on the corners and nobody out in the first. The game will be completed as a nine-inning regulation contest. After the completion of the suspended game, the second game of the doubleheader will be played in seven innings.
