Springdale, AR- The Northwest Arkansas Naturals scored two runs in the ninth inning to top the San Antonio Missions on Tuesday night. The win snapped a franchise long eight-game losing streak.
The Missions wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. They picked up four runs in the first inning two coming on an RBI double by catcher Ali Solis. Noel Arguelles got the start for the Naturals and lasted just a third of an inning allowing four hits and four runs, while walking two.
The Missions (41-47) picked up another run in the top of the second inning gettting an RBI double from Edinson Rincon to make it 5-1.
The Naturals'(42-46) offense got on the board in the bottom of the second inning. Manny Pina hit the first home run of the season to make it a 5-1 game. The Missions tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth inning on Nathan Freiman's 20th home run of the season.
The Naturals' offense got back into the game with a five-run six inning. Brian Fletcher hit his second home run of the season to lead off the inning. Carlo Testa followed with an RBI double to cut the lead to 7-3. Nick Van Stratten followed with a two-run triple to pull the Naturals within two. Michael Liberto followed with an RBI ground out to cap the five run inning, and make it a 7-6 contest.
Liberto led off the ninth inning with a single, and Yem Prades followed with a single of his own. After a Rey Navarro strikeout, Fletcher worked a walk to load the bases. Johnny Whittleman came through with a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Liberto, and after a wild throw from the Missions Rymer Liriano, Prades scored as well to give the Naturals an 8-7 victory.
Ryan Dennick (5-3) picked up the win working one inning allowing just one hit. Ryan Kelly (3-1) took the loss working two-thirds of an inning allowing two hits and two runs, one of which was earned.
The Naturals will head to Springfield to begin a four-game series against the Cardinals on July 12 at 7:08 PM. The Naturals will send right-hander Sugar Ray Marimon (1-1, 2.20) against a Cardinals starter that has yet to be determined. The game can be heard on ESPN 92.1 The Ticket.
