Doubledays Crush IronBirds 10-0, Sweep Series
Birds fall to Doubledays with only one hit throughout the game

ABERDEEN, MD- The IronBirds were unable to avoid a three-game sweep following the 10-0 loss at the hands of the Doubledays. The Birds were shut out for the first time in the 2012 season acquiring only one hit to the Doubledays 15. Aberdeen has now lost four consecutive games to drop their record to 9-16.

Auburn struck early and often, taking an early lead and never looking back Friday night. LF Estarlin Martinez drove in the Doubledays' first run of the night on a RBI double to center field. In the second inning CF Wander Ramos hit a 2 run homer on a fly ball to left field sending C Craig Manuel to the plate for Auburn.

C Tony Renda continued the Doubledays scoring streak in the third on a throwing error by Birds' C Scott Kalush. Facing RHP Sebastian Vader, SS Joe Johnson smacked an RBI single to centerfield in the fourth. Following a scoreless inning, Auburn's Renda singled Johnson home in the sixth.

The Doubledays continued to increase their lead, putting up a four spot in the eighth inning. 2B Mike McQuillan slapped an RBI triple to centerfield followed by an RBI double to left field by 1B Shawn Pleffner. Johnson and Martinez each sent a runner home to cap of the scoring for the night.

LHP Nick Lee (1-0) picked up the win on the night. Lee faced the minimum through three innings and allowed just one hit over five shutout innings. RHP Sebastian Vader (0-3) got the loss for Aberdeen.

RHP Alex Schmarzo closed out the game with four strikeouts and allowing only one hit.

The IronBirds will start a three game series at home against the Batavia Muckdogs, Saturday, July 14. RHP David Richardson (1-0, 2,45) will start for the Birds while Batavia will counter with LHP Tyler Melling (1-0, 2.05). First pitch from Ripken Stadium is set for 7:05 p.m. with coverage on the IronBirds Radio Network at 6:50 p.m.
