In a game that kicked off at noon, both teams battled increasingly heavy showers, and after two separate rain delays, the game was officially called between the top and bottom of the sixth inning.
Adam Morgan took the hill for the Threshers in the matinee matchup, and was solid through his five-plus innings of work. He pitched into the sixth inning before the first rain delay knocked him out of the game. He finished by allowing two runs on three this, walking one and striking out seven over 5.1 innings of work.
The Threshers tallied the first run of the game, as Albert Cartwright singled, stole two bases, and scored on a groundout by Laynce Nix in the bottom of the first. The Marauders took a 2-1 advantage in the second, as Gift Ngoepe's two-out homer to left put the visitors on top.
Clearwater answered in the bottom of the third, however, as Nix delivered a two-out RBI double to left, scoring Edgar Duran to notch the game 2-2. Carlos Alonso also attempted to score on the hit from first base, but was gunned down at the plate to keep the game even.
After the first rain delay both teams took the field again for the top of the sixth. Threshers reliever Kyle Simon worked himself into a bases loaded jam but came back from a 3-1 count to strike out Kirk Singer to end the half-inning.
With heavy downpours returning to the area, the tarp was once again put on the field, and this time it would be for good, as the umpires made the final score official at 3:10pm.
The Threshers will hit the road for four games versus the Charlotte Stone Crabs starting on Thursday night. The team returns next Monday for two games against the Dunedin Blue Jays.
