Trailing by one entering the seventh inning, the Dash (20-15, 64-40-1) knotted the score thanks to a Kevan Smith RBI triple that ricocheted off Myrtle starter Luke Jackson's leg and shot down the right field line.
One frame later, Dan Black rolled a single through the right side, and Keenyn Walker scored from second due to a crafty slide at the dish. Black's knock proved to be the game winner, which propelled Winston to its fifth straight win over Southern Division foes.
Myrtle Beach (21-14, 57-48) struck first on Odubel Herrera's solo shot in the bottom of the first, but the Dash responded with single tallies in the second and third. Smith's first RBI triple knotted the score at one apiece before Trayce Thompson pushed his league-leading RBI total to 79 with a run-producing single to give Winston its first advantage of the night.
The Pelicans responded with a run in the fifth and the sixth, but Winston's pitching duo of Justin Collop and Terance Marin (4-3) minimized the damage and stranded a total of 10 runners. Two weeks after taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning in Myrtle Beach, Collop held the Pelicans to a pair of runs on nine hits. Marin surrendered Myrtle's final run before facing one more than the minimum in the final three frames.
The Dash have won four straight games in Myrtle Beach stretching back to July 12, and Winston improved to 17-10 in one-run games on the campaign.
Winston and Myrtle continue this weekend series Saturday night at 7:05. The Dash send Steve McCray (5-2, 3.54 ERA) to the hill against fellow right-hander Roman Mendez (3-6, 5.90 ERA). Pre-game coverage begins at 6:50 on wsdash.com.
The Dash return home for a six-game homestand that starts Tuesday night at 7:00 against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. To secure your seats, call the Dash office at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
