The RedHawks, who piled up 42 runs on 66 hits during a four-game sweep at Werner Park earlier this month, wasted no time getting on the board and setting a trend as Mike Hessman doubled home Jimmy Parades with two outs in the first inning. Fernando Martinez singled with two down in the third and moved to second base when Hessman drew a walk and both runners would score when Wallace followed with his 16th round-tripper of the year to extend the hosts advantage to four.
Omaha responded in the fourth with a Wil Myers solo home run, his team-leading 17th, that cut the lead to 4-1 and ended a 20-inning scoreless drought for the visitors. Myers had entered the game in a 7-for-54 slump and wound up reaching base four times with a single and two walks.
The visitors loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth but did not score and the momentum shift carried into the bottom of the frame when Matt Dominguez continued his success against Omaha pitching with a two-out, two-run double to lengthen the lead to 6-1. The OKC third baseman, who also spent time with New Orleans this season, has driven in 17 of his 62 runs this year against the Storm Chasers.
Omaha starter Ryan Verdugo suffered the loss after allowing a season-high six runs on six hits, two walks and two hit batters while striking out six. The left-hander had started the night having yielded only one run over 14 frames during the month of July. Jeremy Jeffress, Brandon Sisk and Vin Mazzaro each worked a shutout frame in relief.
Cisnero allowed six hits, walked two and fanned three to earn the victory in his Triple-A debut. Enerio Del Rosario stranded two runners in a scoreless eighth inning before Jose Valdez gave up an RBI hit to Irving Falu in the ninth en route to wrapping up the hosts fifth straight win over the Storm Chasers.
The series continues Sunday evening with Omaha right-hander Jake Odorizzi taking the mound against Oklahoma City right-hander Brian Boss. Coverage of the game gets underway at 5:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone Two, The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
