Triple-A roundup: Odorizzi wins again

Aldridge rips three homers; Buckner hurls six one-hit innings

Royals No. 4 prospect Jake Odorizzi improved to 8-1 after allowing a run on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings as Omaha cruised past Oklahoma City, 11-1. No. 2 prospect Wil Myers went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs for the Storm Chasers, while Astros No. 4 prospect Matt Dominguez was 2-for-3 with a run scored for the RedHawks.

Cory Aldridge recorded his second career three-homer game and drove in seven runs to lead Salt Lake to a 13-6 victory at Las Vegas. Angels No. 10 prospect Kole Calhoun missed the cycle by a triple and added two RBIs, while Matt Long fell a double shy of the cycle. Eric Thames was 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs for the 51s.

D-backs No. 3 prospect Tyler Skaggs struck out 10 and gave up a run on six hits over seven innings as Reno edged Sacramento, 3-2. Newly acquired Tyler Bortnick was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored for the Aces, while Daric Barton had two hits and scored once for the River Cats.

Yangervis Solarte homered, doubled and scored twice to lead Round Rock to a 4-2 win over Memphis in the first game of a doubleheader. Julio Borbon also went yard and had two RBIs at the top of the lineup for the Express, while Justin Grimm pitched six strong innings for his first Triple-A win. Shane Robinson went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for the Redbirds.

Julio Borbon delivered a two-run double in a five-run fourth inning as Round Rock beat Memphis, 8-5, to complete a doubleheader sweep. Ryan Spilborghs collected three RBIs for Round Rock. Lou Montanez had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs for the Redbirds.

Jerry Sands hit a two-run double in the eighth inning to give Albuquerque a 4-2 win over Nashville in the first game of a twinbill. Scott Van Slyke slugged a two-run homer to provide the rest of the Isotopes' offense. Humberto Quintero went deep and drove in both runs for the Sounds.

Jerry Sands became the fifth player in PCL history to hit two grand slams in one game, powering Albuquerque to an 11-0 rout of Nashville and sweep of its doubleheader. Blake Johnson allowed two hits over five innings for the win and Trent Oeltjen was 4-for-5 with a triple and three runs scored for the Isotopes. Brewers No. 17 prospect Caleb Gindl doubled for the Sounds' only extra-base hit.

Juan Ciriaco and Jackson Williams hit back-to-back homers in the second inning as Fresno edged Colorado Springs, 4-3, in the opener of a doubleheader. Giants No. 9 prospect Conor Gillaspie and Todd Linden went yard an inning later for the Grizzlies, while Brandon Roberts went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Sky Sox.

Newly acquired Marlins No. 12 prospect Rob Brantly hit a pinch walk-off homer in the 10th inning to give New Orleans a 6-3 triumph over Iowa. Zephyrs starter Brad Hand struck out nine and allowed one run on four hits over six innings, while Welington Castillo homered and drove in two runs for the Cubs.

Daniel Robertson went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Tucson's 5-3 win over Tacoma in the first of a doubleheader. Jorge Reyes earned the win after giving up three runs on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings. Rainiers catcher Guillermo Quiroz was 2-for-3 with a solo homer.

Padres No. 4 prospect Jedd Gyorko hit his 17th Triple-A homer as Tucson completed a doubleheader sweep by blanking Tacoma, 2-0. Four pitchers combined on the shutout, with Josh Spence giving up two hits over three innings. David Pauley pitched a six-hitter for his first complete game since 2010.

Billy Buckner allowed one hit over six innings as Pawtucket blanked Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 4-0. Mark Prior, Daniel Bard and Chris Carpenter completed the shutout, while Red Sox No. 3 prospect Ryan Lavarnway went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Jack Cust's was one of the Yankees' two hits.

Chris Schwinden gave up a run on three hits and struck out five over seven innings as Buffalo held on for a 3-2 win at Indianapolis. Batterymate Lucas May had two hits and drove in all of the Bisons' runs. Pirates No. 8 prospect Justin Wilson struck out seven and allowed two runs on one hit and five walks over five frames for the Indians.

Rehabbing Brent Morel hit a walk-off single in the ninth inning to give Charlotte a 3-2 win over Gwinnett. Ernesto Mejia and Stefan Gartrell hit solo homers for the Braves, who got five solid innings from top prospect Julio Teheran.

Jason Pridie and Cody Overbeck both went 2-for-4 with two RBIs as Lehigh Valley topped Syracuse, 6-3, in the first game of a doubleheader. Five other IronPigs had two hits apiece, while Carlos Rivero supplied the Chiefs' offense with a fourth-inning home run.

Carlos Rivero fell a triple shy of the cycle and drove in two runs as Syracuse salvaged a split of the doubleheader by beating Lehigh Valley, 6-1. Chiefs starter Tanner Roark pitched a five-hitter for his first career complete game and pinch-hitter Chad Tracy smacked a solo homer. Domonic Brown drove in the IronPigs' only run.

Chad Reineke yielded two hits and a walk while striking out nine over 7 1/3 scoreless innings as Louisville beat Toledo, 3-1. Reds No. 4 prospect Didi Gregorius went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and Cody Puckett stroked a two-run blast for the Bats. Tigers No. 3 prospect Casey Crosby took the loss, despite giving up a run on three hits over eight innings.

Matt Carson was 3-for-5 with a solo homer and two runs scored in Rochester's 8-5 victory at Columbus. Wilkin Ramirez also had three hits, including a solo shot, while Rene Rivera drilled a two-run blast for the Red Wings. Clippers right fielder Vinny Rotino doubled and drove in three runs.

Orioles No. 14 prospect Joe Mahoney went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and two runs scored as Norfolk squeaked past Durham, 8-7. Brandon Waring drove in three runs for the Tides, while Rich Thompson was 3-for-4 with a triple, a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored out of the leadoff spot for the Bulls.
