Johnny Giavotella contributes with three RBI
08/01/2012 11:53 PM ET

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers erased a three-run deficit to trump the Reno Aces, 6-3, on Wednesday night. Johnny Giavotella went two-for-four at the plate and knocked in a trio of runs while southpaw Doug Davis picked up his sixth win of the season after allowing three runs in six innings of work to go with his eight strikeouts. The victory shrinks the Chasers' magic number to clinch their second straight division title to 17 games as well as snapped their five-game Werner Park losing streak.

Reno (65-47) put up three runs in the third but Omaha (67-45) came charging back and scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning. A Jason Bourgeois walk was followed up by back-to-back singles by Derrick Robinson and Irving Falu to load the bases for Giavotella who drove in Bourgeois on an infield hit to the third baseman. Tony Abreu then doubled to left to plate Robinson and Falu while a Wil Myers groundout brought home Giavotella to give the Storm Chasers a 4-3 advantage. Abreu's double was his team-high 36th two-bagger of the season.

Bourgeois led-off the bottom of the fourth with a single to right and was moved to second on a single by Robinson. A sacrifice bunt by Falu advanced the runners to second and third while Giavotella brought Bourgeois and Robinson home on a single to left, to extend the Chasers lead to 6-3.

Roman Colon worked a scoreless seventh and eighth while Vin Mazzaro worked the ninth without yielding a run to earn his fourth save of 2012.
