D-Braves Go Pink to Promote Women's Health
08/05/2012 12:38 PM ET

DANVILLE, Va. - The Danville Braves, along with the Centra Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center, are pleased to present this year's Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Saturday, July 28. Since last season, the D-Braves have devoted one home game in the month of July towards promoting cancer awareness in the Greater Danville Area.

The 2011 Cancer Awareness Night took place on July 22 and raised over $3,000. The proceeds raised in '11 provided funding for preventative and early detection measures, such as mammograms. The funds also helped facilities off-set the costs incurred when purchasing cancer-related research equipment and supplies.

On Breast Cancer Awareness Night, the D-Braves plan on incorporating the color pink into the game. D-Braves players and coaches will sport limited edition pink breast cancer awareness jerseys in a show of solidarity in the fight against this deadly disease.

These limited edition jerseys will be made available in a specialty-night silent auction on the ALP 325 Field concourse. Fans can place bids on the game-worn jerseys through the end of the seventh inning and the team will have a post-game pick-up for all silent auction winners.

The team will also host 10 women, a combination of breast cancer survivors and those currently undergoing treatment, in a suite at ALP 325 Field. All proceeds will benefit the Centra Foundation Cancer Patient Care Fund and Danville Cancer Association.
