Tri-City starter Shane Broyles (4-2) struck out eight batters in his six innings of work. Broyles allowed only one run, which was unearned, and retired in order the last 11 batters that he faced. The bullpen combined to throw three scoreless frames to keep the Canadians off the scoreboard the reminder of the game.
The Dust Devils took their first lead of the game in the sixth inning. Tri-City drove in four runs on six hits, roughing up Vancouver reliever Jonathan Lucas.
Derek Jones scored off of a double steal in the inning. Jones reached safely in all four of his at-bats, finishing the game with three base hits and two runs scored. Yafistel Roja had one of his best games of the season, collecting three base hits and stealing three bases.
In the first inning Tom Murphy extended his Northwest League season-high hitting streak to 19 games. It is the longest hitting streak in the NWL since Alvaro Ramirez hit safely in 20 consecutive games for the Boise Hawks in 2010.
The five-game series between the Dust Devils and Canadians wraps up on Friday night. Right-hander TJ Oakes will start for the Dust Devils. Vancouver will counter with right-hander Taylor Cole. First pitch is at 7:15 p.m. and gates open at 6:15 p.m. It is Faith Night presented by Meyer's Auto Tech and $1 Family Feast Night presented by Lamb Weston.
