Early runs doom Hens in Syracuse
08/16/2012 9:38 PM ET

Duane Below was roughed up in his first start for Toledo on Thursday night in Syracuse. The recently optioned Below gave up three runs on eight hits in three innings of work.

Below was bested by Chiefs lefty Zach Duke, who threw eight innings giving up just two runs and eight hits. Jose Ortega was roughed up as well for Toledo, giving up five runs, three earned, in just 1.2 innings.

Trailing 8-0 heading into the final inning, the Mud Hens produced a four run surge beginning with a two run blast from John Lindsey. The 'Cuse bullpen however shut the door and held on for the 8-4 win.

Toledo and Syracuse will battle again on Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
