A bases-loaded triple in the sixth inning on Thursday had Zoilo Almonte looking pretty good in what was shaping up to be an easy blowout win at Reading. His six RBIs, though, ended up being the insurance runs Trenton needed just to hang on.

Almonte went 3-for-5 and hit a pair of homers, tripled and drove home a career-high six runs as Double-A Trenton outslugged Reading, 14-12, in a game that saw runs scored in every single inning.

The Yankees' No. 15 prospect hit a two-run homer to right just three batters into the game off Phillies starter Brody Colvin, a right-hander who is Philadelphia's third-ranked prospect. The 23-year-old connected again in the fifth with a solo drive to center, his 20th, to make it a 7-2 lead.

The outfielder wasn't done -- his biggest hit of the night came a frame later when he clubbed a bases-loaded triple off Jordan Whatcott as Trenton pumped out seven runs in the inning to pull away.

The rally did end up as being enough, despite Reading tacking on 10 more runs in the final four innings. The R-Phils rallied in the ninth, scoring two runs and bringing the tying run to the plate in Tyson Gillies, but Ryan Pope came on to get the final out, whiffing him to end the night.

It was Almonte's first multi-homer game since June 14, 2011, when he hit a pair for Class A Advanced Tampa. He also hit two out in 2010 with Class A Charleston on April 20 and June 11 that season.

The former South Atlantic League All-Star, who last went deep Aug. 12, has hit eight homers since July 31. He's batting .315 in August after hitting .302 in July and .333 in May.

The switch-hitting native of the Dominican Republic has put up nice numbers in his first full season with Trenton, batting .284 with 20 homers, 66 RBIs, 15 steals and a .323 on-base percentage.

He was an MiLB.com Yankees All-Star last year after hitting .275 with 15 homers, 77 RBIs and 18 steals at two levels, numbers he's improved upon at the higher level.

Kevin Mahoney also went deep for Trenton, while JR Murphy went 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Cody Asche went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and D'Arby Myers went 5-for-5 while knocking home three runs for Reading.

Brett Marshall (13-5) went 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win for Trenton, while Colvin (1-2) was charged with 11 runs -- seven earned -- in 5 2/3 frames for Reading.
