Wisler (5-4) scattered four hits, earning his first win since July 22. Following up on a career-high nine strikeout performance last Saturday against Dayton, the Bryan, Ohio, native retired eight consecutive batters from the end of the second inning through the first out of the fourth. Dayton (22-30, 52-69) put just three runners in scoring position against Wisler.
Fort Wayne (32-22, 63-61) pounced on Dragons starter James Allen, who allowed the first eight TinCaps batters of the game to reach base. Yeison Asencio started the scoring with a two-run single, Kyle Gaedele was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and both Travis Jankowski and Jace Peterson plated runs to make it 5-0 in the first inning. The TinCaps sent 11 batters to the plate in the frame.
Cody Hebner made his return to the active roster, working in relief for the first time in 2012. The righthander worked two scoreless, hitless innings, walking one and striking out two. It was just the fifth relief appearance of Hebner's career, and his first since July 24, 2011. Luis De La Cruz and Matt Stites both contributed one scoreless inning each out of the Fort Wayne bullpen.
Game two of the four-game series is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 3:00. The scheduled starters are Erik Cabrera for the TinCaps and Ismael Guillon for the Dragons.
