Fort Wayne, Ind.-The Fort Wayne TinCaps scored five runs in the first inning and made them hold up for a 5-0 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Saturday night in the first game of a four-game series. The loss dropped the Dragons to 22-30 in the second half.

The TinCaps sent 11 batters to the plate in the first, collecting five hits, three walks, and a hit batsman that came with the bases loaded. Yeison Asencio's two-run double was the big hit in the inning. Travis Jankowski and Jace Peterson also added run-scoring singles.

Dragons starting pitcher James Allen (7-4) worked the first five innings. He allowed seven hits and five runs (all in the first inning) with three walks and six strikeouts to suffer the loss. Allen bounced back after the first by retiring 12 of the 14 batters he faced over the rest of his night.

Jimmy Moran replaced Allen to start the sixth and tossed two scoreless innings, allowing two hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Lucas O'Rear pitched one inning and recorded one walk and one strikeout but no runs.

The Dragons collected six hits. Juan Silva and Kyle Waldrop had two apiece. Silva had a double for the Dragons only extra base hit.

The Dragons (22-30) battle the TinCaps (32-22) on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. in the second game of a four-game series. Ismael Guillon will start for Dayton in his Midwest League debut. Guillon ranked second in the Pioneer League in earned run average, strikeouts, and opponents' batting average with Billings at the time he was promoted to Dayton. Fort Wayne will counter with Erik Cabrera (0-1, 8.31). The series at Fort Wayne will be followed by three games at Bowling Green.
