The Hooks would strike first in the 4th inning, when Jon Singleton hit solo shot to straightaway center.
The Cardinals would respond in the latter half of the inning, when Audry Perez tied the game with an RBI double down the right field line to bring in Jamie Romak. They would threaten to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth, but Drew Locke would throw out Kevin Siegrist at the plate to end the inning on an Oscar Tavares base hit.
Springfield starter Kevin Siegrist pitched seven innings of four-hit ball. He struck out six and yielded only the one run on Singleton's homer.
The Cardinals bullpen combined for five innings of no-hit ball until Jair Fernandez's solo home run in the top of the thirteenth. Michael Blazek pitched three innings of no-hit ball in relief while striking out four Hooks batters and walking one. Keith Butler pitched the eleventh inning, walked one and struck out one. Justin Wright (0-2) earned the loss, throwing two innings and only giving up the deciding home run. He would earn the loss.
Corpus Christi starter Asher Wojciechowski pitched six and two-thirds innings, giving up one run and five hits. He struck out one.
Corpus Christi's bullpen would also put on a strong outing. Hooks reliever Kevin Chapman threw one and one thirds perfect innings. Jake Buchannan would pitch the ninth and tenth, giving up no hits while striking out one and walking one. Reliever Eric Abreu (9-4) got the win, throwing the eleventh and twelfth, striking out one and giving up one hit. Jason Stoeffel (24) pitched a perfect thirteenth and earned the save.
Springfield will hit the road for a four-game series against the NW Arkansas Naturals tomorrow night at 7:05pm. The Cardinals will have Carlos Martinez on the mound against JC Sulbaran of the Naturals.
