(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains (33-26, 64-64) defeated the South Bend Silver Hawks (30-29, 65-64) by a final of 8-5 in game one of two at Classic Park. The Captains lost game two by a final of 9-3. Both games took a total of five hours and seven minutes to play.
In game one, Lake County got on the board first. The Captains scored in the bottom of the second inning, Bryson Myles walked and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Zach MacPhee. It was 1-0 Captains. South Bend tied the game in the top of the third inning when Eric Groff walked and then he moved to second on a wild pitch and eventually scored on a groundball.
Lake County scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings combined. Lake County sent eight men to the plate in the fourth inning and scored three runs. Luigi Rodriguez homered, his eleventh of the season, and Zach MacPhee tripled in the inning to plate the runs. In the fifth, Lake County batted around and scored four runs. Lake County used five singles to score the runs.
In the seventh, with two outs, South Bend scored four runs. In the inning, South Bend drew three walks and a hit by a pitch en-route to the big inning. Lake County held on for the 8-5 win.
In game two, South Bend had two big innings. The first big inning came in the top of the third inning. South Bend batted around and scored five runs. In that inning, Again Lake County walked three, and hit a batter. South Bend added back-to-back doubles to take a 6-1 lead.
Lake County scored two runs in the second game. Zach MacPhee who had three total RBI's in the two ballgames knocked in a run in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1. In the third inning, with the score 6-1, Jordan Smith hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate the second run and the score was 6-2.
South Bend capped the scoring in the second game when Tom Belza blasted a three run home run to right center field in the top of the sixth inning. The score was 9-2.
Leonardo Castillo tripled in the bottom of the seventh inning to score a run as Jerrud Saborin scored from first base and the score was 9-3. That was the final.
LHP Elvis Araujo (7-9) started the game one for the Captains and earned the win. Araujo pitched five and one third innings allowing three hits, one earned run, three walks, and four strikeouts. Enosil Tejada pitched one third of an inning to pick up his sixth of the season.
RHP Cody Anderson (4-7) started game two for Lake County and took the loss. Anderson pitched two innings, and allowed one hit, three runs, two were earned, three walks and three strikeouts. Lake County used two relief pitchers in game two.
LHP Andrew Barbosa (2-4) started the first game for South Bend, and took the loss. Barbosa pitched three and one third innings, allowing six hits, four runs, three earned, one walk and five strikeouts. South Bend used two relief pitchers in game one.
RHP Jesse Darrah (8-5) got the nod in game two for the Silver Hawks and did not get a decision. Darrah pitched three and one third innings, four hits, two earned runs, three walks and four strikeouts. JR Bradley (7-8) earned the win after pitching three and two thirds innings, allowing five hits, one earned run, one walk and five strikeouts.
On Friday RHP Nick Pasquale (2-0, 1.96) will start for the Captains and the Silver Hawks will counter with RHP Conrad Flynn (0-0, 6.43). Game Time is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
The home stand concludes on Friday, with a Fireworks Friday night presented by State Farm Insurance Agent Debbie George and 92.3 FM, The Fan. The Captains will welcome all super heroes to the ballpark for Super Heroes Night. Youngsters and adults are encouraged to wear their favorite super hero costume to the game. The first 1,500 fans will also receive a Captains Fleece Blanket presented by Lake Health.
