The International League announced today that Syracuse left-hander John Lannan has been named the League's Pitcher of the Week for the period from August 20-26.

Lannan is the third Syracuse pitcher in the past five weeks to be named IL Pitcher of the Week (Tanner Roark, Zach Duke) and fourth Chiefs player this season to win a weekly award (Corey Brown).

The southpaw turned in his best outing of the season Saturday night at Gwinnett. Lannan shut out the G-Braves to win a pitcher's duel with Julio Teheran, the reigning IL Most Valuable Pitcher, by a 1-0 score in a game in which both teams managed just three hits.

Lannan needed a mere 87 pitches (60 strikes) to complete his 9.0-inning masterpiece, and he faced just two batters over the minimum to win the two-hour and 15-minute contest.

The 27-year-old Lannan is in his sixth season as a professional, all with the Washington organization. He has 130 starts under his belt in the Major Leagues, including the Opening Day assignment in 2009 and 2010. In addition to his 23 starts for the Chiefs this season, Lannan is 2-0 in two spot starts for the Nats.
