Louisville could not do anything against David Huff as the Clippers left-hander shut down the Bats in a 2-0 Columbus win.
After four innings of scoreless baseball, the Clippers would finally break through in the bottom of the fifth. Cord Phelps drove in Tim Fedroff with an RBI single up the box. Phelps then came around to score on a Jared Goedert RBI single to right, giving Columbus a 2-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Clippers left-hander David Huff (W, 7-6) was flat-out dominant on the mound, shutting out the Bats on seven hits while striking out five and walking one in 7 2/3 innings of work.
The closest Louisville got to scoring was in the eighth inning when they had runners on second and third with two outs in the top of the eighth. Fortunately, Columbus reliever Frank Herrmann got Devin Mesoraco to pop out to second to end the threat. He would later go on to earn his eighth save of the season by shutting the door in the ninth. Chad Reineke (L, 5-11) took the loss for Louisville.
Columbus will continue its three game series with Louisville on Friday night. The Clippers will have left-hander T.J. McFarland (7-6, 5.12) get the start on the mound. Right-hander Tim Gustafson (5-5, 5.13) will get the ball for the Bats. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
