Brian Broderick started for the Sens and went six innings and allowed two earned runs in his final outing of the season. Richmond scored a run in the first on a sacrifice fly giving the Squirrels a 1-0 lead.
Harrisburg came right back with three runs in the second to take the lead. Justin Bloxom homered leading off the inning against Richmond starter Justin Fitzgerald. Jhonatan Solano and Tim Pahuta followed with singles putting runners on first and second with no outs. Seth Bynum doubled both in giving the Sens a 3-1 lead and the makings of a big inning. But from that point, the Senators would manage just one hit until the ninth inning as the offense was shut down by Fitzgerald.
Richmond scored a run in the fifth to close to 3-2 and tied the game in the sixth on the first of two home runs by Johnny Monell.
With the score tied in the ninth, Jimmy VanOstrand hit a pinch-hit double with two outs driving in Seth Bynum with the go ahead run. Unfortunately for the Sens, the lead lasted just one batter into the bottom of the ninth.
With Hector Nelo on the hill looking for his 17th save, he allowed a leadoff home run to Monell to tie the game. With one out, Richmond loaded the bases with Ehire Adrianza coming to the plate. He singled through the drawn-in infield to plate Ryan Cavan with the winning run.
The Senators return home for a five-game in four day series against Bowie. The game Friday night begins at 7:00 p.m. and can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet and through the iHeart Radio app beginning with the pregame show at 6:40 p.m.
