The Pacific Coast League announced today that Salt Lake Bees infielder Matt Long has been named PCL Hitter of the Week for the week of August 27-September 3. This is the first Hitter of the Week award for the Bees in 2012 and the first of Long's Triple-A career.

Long, 25, tallied 11 hits in 20 at-bats (.550) with two home runs, two doubles, one triple, nine RBI, seven runs scored and a 1.050 slugging percentage in six games. During the final game of the season for the Bees on September 3, Long went 3-for-4 with two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored in the 16-9 Bees win over Sacramento.

In his first season at the Triple-A level, Long finished the year hitting .282 with 19 doubles, eight triples, nine home runs, 46 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 98 games with the Bees. The Mountain View, Calif. native was originally selected by the Angels in the 30th round of the 2009 Draft.

The Salt Lake Bees ended the 2012 season with a 73-71 record, the club's 16th winning season since the franchise was established in 1994.
