The Southern League has announced that Lookouts Head Groundskeeper Joe Fitzgerald has been named 2012 Southern League Groundskeeper of the Year, as selected by the league's field managers and umpires.
"It's a real honor to be recognized by the league for doing my job well and carrying out my passion," said Fitzgerald. The 2012 season marks Fitzgerald's second with the Lookouts. Previously, he served as a groundskeeping intern for the Boston Red Sox and member of the Kansas City Royals grounds crew before becoming the head groundskeeper for the independent Kansas City T-Bones in 2008.
Fitzgerald graduated from the University of Minnesota-Crookston with a degree in Golf Facilities and Turf Systems Management.
Game three on Saturday, which will feature post-game fireworks, will be played at AT&T Field at 7:15 P.M. Games four and five, if necessary, will also be played at AT&T Field. Playoff tickets can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
