On August 30th, 2012, a crowd of 11,463 ascended upon Chukchansi Park to take part in Taco Truck Throwdown 2. The event, presented by FresnoBeehive.com, FresnoTacos.com, CBS 47 and Q97, featured 13 different local taco trucks, selling traditional tacos to Korean fusion tacos to even one taco that contained duck meat. Throughout the night, 14,550 tacos were consumed. El Premio Mayor of Fresno was crowned the Taco Truck Champion in both the People's Choice and Judges' Choice award categories.
This year marks the sixth consecutive season the Grizzlies have been nominated for Promo of theYear in the MiLBY awards. In 2011, the inaugural Taco Truck Throwdown captured the MiLBY for Best Miscellaneous Promotion and was a finalist in the Promotion of the Year voting. Other past Promo of the Year nominees include Fresno Famous Night (2007), Mascot Showdown featuring the Phillie Phanatic (2008), As Seen On TV Night (2009) and Twilight Night (2010). Mascot Showdown won the 2008 Promo of the Year award.
The 2012 MiLBY Awards feature 11 different categories overall, including Play, Moment, Home Run, Offensive Player, Starting Pitcher, Relief Pitcher, Breakout Prospect, Game, Team, Promo and Photo. Nominees in the Promo of the Year category were selected based on "originality, timeliness, community engagement and trendsetting potential."
