66ers Settle For Split with High Desert
11/14/2012 4:10 PM ET

Adelanto, CA- -The Inland Empire 66ers (24-17) pitching staff could not hold down the California League's top offense Saturday, as the High Desert Mavericks (21-21) earned a 9-3 victory over Inland Empire. Despite being outscored in their series in Adelanto 26-19 the 66ers earned a split of the series and moved into and maintained a hold on first place in the division.

Early on it appeared the 66ers might race out to a large lead after Joel Capote's game opening double started a two run first. But the Mavericks quickly matched that total in the bottom half of the inning and led 3-2 entering the 3rd. That's when Zach Borenstein tied the game with an RBI single up the middle. The run driven in was the 100th of his professional career, and helped him extend his hit streak to a team best 12 games.

However, the Mavericks would not be denied Saturday. A bases loaded triple by Chris Taylor in the 4th gave High Desert a 6-3 lead and the home team would not look back from there. A major league rehab assignment for the 66ers couldn't even slow the Mavs offense in their offensively friendly building. Sean Burnett looked strong for most of his one inning rehab performance, but did allow a home run, arguably a wind aided one, to leave the ballpark.

The first place Inland Empire 66ers return home to San Manuel Sunday, May 19th to host the San Jose Giants for a Family Funday Sunday presented by Toyota of San Bernardino.
