CORPUS CHRISTI - Hooks president Ken Schrom announced Thursday the appointment of Los Fresnos native Josh Brewer as superintendent of Whataburger Field.
Brewer, 32, has worked alongside three award-winning Hooks groundskeepers: Brad Detmore, Garrett Reddehase and Izzy Hinojosa. Hinojosa recently accepted a position with the Houston Astros. Reddehase runs field operations at The Dell Diamond in Round Rock and Detmore is head groundskeeper of the independent Sugar Land Skeeters.
“Josh has benefited from his experience as an assistant to three very talented field superintendents,” Schrom said. “He’s an extremely hard worker with great people skills and this is a well-deserved promotion.”
“It’s nice to create something that’s visually appealing to fans and the managers, coaches and players at every level who use our playing surface,” Brewer said. “We’ll do the best job possible on the field and surrounding grounds. I am grateful for the opportunity.”
Brewer, who will supervise a crew of up to six in-season, is an avid surfer, fisherman and golfer. He graduated from Los Fresnos High School and attended the University of Texas-Brownsville. Brewer was assistant superintendent at Northshore Country Club from 2004-07. He worked part-time for Detmore in 2005-06 before joining Reddehase’s staff on a full-time basis the next season.
Josh is married to the former Michelle Bockholt.
