The $1,000 grant will allow Feed the Hungry Forsyth to achieve a $12,000 goal, enough to purchase a refrigerated truck. With the truck, the organization will be able to collect meats, vegetables and other perishable food items from area restaurants that would otherwise go to waste. Feed the Hungry Forsyth will then donate those foods to ministries and food pantries that serve the hungry throughout Forsyth County, including children, elderly, working poor, homeless and the unemployed.
"We are thrilled to receive this grant and the support of the Gwinnett Braves," said Allen Madding, director and food gatherer of Feed the Hungry Forsyth. "This grant will enable us to expand our current ministry and significantly increase the amount of food we collect and deliver to local food pantries. This will in turn positively affect the lives of many families in our community."
For their part in the fundraising, the Gwinnett Braves will have their logo featured on the truck alongside other donor businesses that have helped Feed the Hungry Forsyth reach its goal.
