The Boston Red Sox have announced that right-hander Pedro Beato has been designated for assignment. The move was made to make room for Ryan Dempster on the Red Sox 40 man roster.
The team acquired Beato from the Mets as the player to be named in the deal that sent Kelly Shoppach to New York in August 2012. He appeared in four games for the Pawtucket Red Sox, giving up only one unearned run in 5 innings pitched. The 26-year-old also appeared in seven games with the Mets in 2012.
