LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Lynchburg Hillcats have announced that 97.9 FM The Planet will be the new flagship station for Hillcats' game broadcasts for the 2013 season. All 140 regular season games, plus any necessary playoff games will be heard on The Planet.

LRG General Manager, Mike McKendree said, "Lynchburg Radio Group is very pleased with the opportunity to partner with the Hillcats. It is a good fit for our local Lynchburg radio company to broadcast the Hillcats games and keep the fans informed on a Lynchburg radio station, 97.9 The Planet. As well as promote the team and game day events on all of our locally operated stations."

The Planet is a classic rock music station that will be airing other sports programming in addition to Hillcats games. University of Virginia football and basketball games and select local high school sporting events will be heard on 97.9 FM in 2013.

Hillcats' Director of Broadcasting, Erik Wilson said, "Partnering with Lynchburg Radio Group is a great opportunity for the Hillcats, and we're very excited about the upcoming season. Mike [McKendree] and his team have worked really hard to become a part of the local community, and we are confident they will deliver an excellent product to our fans."

In addition to all games being heard on 97.9 FM, fans will be able to tune in online by following the radio links at lynchburg-hillcats.com.

All Hillcats broadcasts will include a 20-25 minute pre-game show and a 10-15 minute post game show. Fans will also be able to hear Wilson and other Hillcats staff members on the 93.7 FM KHF Morning Show periodically to promote special events and Hillcats games at Lynchburg City Stadium.

The 2013 season will begin April 5 on the road for the defending Carolina League Champion Lynchburg Hillcats as they take on the Potomac Nationals in Woodbridge, VA. Wilson will be calling all the action as he enters his third season as the "Voice of the Hillcats."
