The Arkansas Travelers Executive Committee announces that Paul Allen has been named General Manager of the franchise. Allen takes over the position full time after running the Travs on an interim basis since November. A veteran of eight years in professional baseball, Allen has spent seven seasons with the Travelers including the previous six years as the club's Assistant General Manager and Director of Group Sales. He will oversee all business aspects of the Travelers and the operations at Dickey-Stephens Park.
"I am honored to have been chosen to run this wonderful franchise that has become such an important part of my life," said Allen. "We have an energetic staff here at Dickey-Stephens Park and I'm excited to lead them into the future. I think we all understand that the Travelers are a special institution in Central Arkansas. There's a rich history and tradition here that is nearly unmatched across the landscape of Minor League Baseball. I pledge to do my absolute best to see that the Travelers are successful."
Allen, 32, took his first job in professional baseball with the Travelers during the 2005 season as a stadium operations intern at Ray Winder Field in Little Rock. He moved to the Birmingham Barons as an event planner for the 2006 season, but returned to the Travelers in 2007 for the inaugural season of Dickey-Stephens Park as Director of Group Sales. Allen added the title of Assistant General Manager before the 2010 season. During his tenure Allen focused mostly on event planning and corporate sponsorship sales but has also assisted with team travel planning. A graduate of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and a native of Las Vegas, Paul currently resides in North Little Rock with his wife Alexis. They are expecting their first child in March.
"On behalf of the Travelers Executive Committee, I want to congratulate Paul Allen on his acceptance of the position of team General Manager," said Travelers President Russ Meeks. "Throughout this process we reviewed many qualified applicants, but Paul stood above the rest. Now we've all gotten to know Paul during these last few years, but during his time as interim General Manager he has shown exceptionally strong leadership and organizational skills under challenging circumstances. He certainly demonstrated to us that he is the right person to lead the Travelers into the future."
