Beginning on Feb. 11-the day Oakland Athletics' pitchers and catchers report to spring training-fans will begin voting for their favorite River Cat at each position. Each round of voting will last one week for nine consecutive weeks, with winners for each position announced at the beginning of the next round of voting. Then, at nine different games throughout the season, the winners' bobbleheads will be given away to 2,500 fans per game.
Voting will take place online at rivercats.com/vote or on mobile devices at atmilb.com/pollrc. The first week's vote will be for the greatest pitcher in River Cats history, and fans will have the chance to choose from Barry Zito, Gio Gonzalez, Justin Duchscherer, Rich Harden and Aaron Harang. Combined, these five pitchers represent one Cy Young Award, one World Series championship, and seven All-Star Game appearances.
The exact giveaway dates for each bobblehead will be announced Tuesday, Feb. 19, when the rest of the 2013 River Cats promotional schedule will be released to the public. That same day, the River Cats-in partnership with Major League Baseball Advanced Media-will roll out an all-new version of rivercats.com, the club's official website.
To help collectors keep track of the 2013 bobblehead series, the River Cats will be giving away a Bobblefield-a replica ballpark with spaces for each of the nine bobbleheads-only on the date of the first giveaway.
