Saturday, March 30, 2013 was officially declared Major League Baseball Day by the Jefferson Parish Council at a ceremony held in Harahan on Wednesday.

In a proclamation presented to New Orleans Zephyrs Executive Director Ron Maestri and General Manager Mike Schline, the governing authority of Jefferson Parish celebrated the return of Major League Baseball to the Crescent City for the first time since 1999.

The proclamation reads:

"Whereas Major League Baseball returns to the New Orleans area for the first time in fourteen years when the New Orleans Zephyrs face their parent club, the Miami Marlins, at 1:00 p.m. on March 30, 2013, at Zephyr Field in Jefferson Parish; and

Whereas the two-time World Champion Marlins have been the Major League affiliate of the Zephyrs since 2009 and have called up over thirty Zephyrs to play for the team in the last five seasons, including Chris Coghlan, winner of the 2009 National League Rookie of the Year Award; and

Whereas this Council wishes to promote this historic game between the Marlins and Zephyrs and to encourage all citizens of Jefferson Parish to support the return of Major League play to Jefferson Parish by declaring ... March 30, 2013 shall be known as Major League Baseball Day in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana."

Tickets are still available to see the Marlins-Zephyrs exhibition game, and can be purchased online through Ticketmaster, by calling the Zephyrs at (504) 734-5155, or by visiting the Zephyr Field box office.
