His brother may have become a legend in Baltimore, but Michael Flacco will have to make his mark somewhere else.

The third baseman, a 31st-round pick by the Orioles in the 2009 Draft and younger brother of Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, was traded to the Red Sox on Friday for cash considerations.

"Mike had a few years with us and the Red Sox had some interest. And we thought it would be a better opportunity for him," Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette told the Baltimore Sun. "We talk to clubs every day to see if we have a match, and on this one we had a match."

The older Flacco secured his spot in Baltimore sports history last month by leading the Ravens to a Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers and earning MVP honors.

Michael Flacco appeared in 103 games last season for Class A Advanced Frederick before earning a four-game promotion to Double-A Bowie. The 26-year-old hit .218/.289/.337 with eight homers across the two levels and owns a .253/.335/.378 line in 353 games over four Minor League seasons.
