Thanks in large part to another stellar outing by Louisville lefty Tony Cingrani, the Clippers were shut out for the second time in three days as they were blanked 4-0 by the Bats.
Louisville would draw first blood on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third on a Henry Rodriguez RBI single. The Bats would add to their lead on a Mark Hessman two run homer in the fourth and another RBI single by Rodriguez in the bottom of the seventh.
Columbus had a tough time getting anything going offensively in this game, managing only five hits and leaving seven men on base. Bats left-hander Tony Cingrani (W, 1-0), the reigning IL pitcher of the week, blanked the Clippers on three hits while striking out seven and walking one in 6 1/3 innings. Joe Martinez (L, 0-1) suffered his first loss of the 2013 season for the Clippers.
The Clippers conclude their three game series with the Bats on Wednesday. Right-hander Corey Kluber (1-0, 4.50) will get the ball for Columbus and oppose Louisville righty Armando Gallarraga (1-0, 1.80). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
