Blue Jays sign Batista for Herd rotation
Long-time major league veteran returns to Buffalo

The Toronto Blue Jays today announced that they have signed RHP MIGUEL BATISTA to a minor league contract. Batista will join the Bisons pitching staff in the next couple of days.

Batista, 32, split time between the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves organization in 2012. He began the season in New York where he was 1-3 with a 4.82 ERA in 30 games and five starts with the Mets (46.2 IP, 59 SO). He then signed with Atlanta on July 27 and pitched in six games with Gwinnett (1-1, 3.38 ERA) and in five relief appearances with the Braves (3.00 ERA).

Batista is a veteran of 658 Major League games with a 102-115 record and a 4.48ERA in 1,956.1 innings (1,250 SO). He posted an 11-8 record and a 3.36ERA in 48 games for the 2001 World Series Champion Arizona Diamondbacks. Batista also pitched 10 games and eight starts with the Bisons in 2011 and was 3-0 with a 4.24 ERA (46.2 IP, 36 SO).

The Blue Jays also announced on Wednesday that Bisons RHP ALEX BURNETT has been designated for assignment. Burnett has pitched two scoreless outings for the Herd this season (2.1 IP).
