RailRiders Surpass 2011 Total Ticket Sales
One Week into the Season, First Benchmark Beaten
04/11/2013 10:44 AM ET

Moosic, Pa. - An oft-used quote in the baseball world seems the most applicable to this news.  "If you build it, they will come."  In all of 2011, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre baseball franchise drew 298,098 fans.  Less than a week into the 2013 campaign, the rebranded RailRiders (Triple-A, New York Yankees) have already exceeded that number of tickets sold at the new PNC Field.  In fact, including the tickets sold for Wednesday night's postponed game, the total exceeds 300,000.

"This is a solid first step for our team and demonstrates our community's interest in restoring our baseball games to the top of the list for fun, affordable family entertainment," said Rob Crain, team president/GM.  "We still have higher goals in mind to reach as the year continues, and we firmly believe those goals will also be achieved."

Let's put things in perspective.  The 2012 season is not used a benchmark since the team spent the season on the road as PNC Field was reconstructed into one of the game's truly elite facilities.  In 2011, the team drew a total of 19,734 fans on the month of April.  A month, by the way, which is known for chilly weather and the constraints of a school bell for families each weekday morning.  Through just seven games this April, the cumulative attendance already stands at 30,387.  Oh by the way, there are another eight home affairs still to come from April 19-26.

While the interest of the area has been piqued, eager fans still have plenty of prime opportunities to catch RailRiders baseball this season.  Great ticket packages, group deals and single-game tickets are available.  With no upper deck at PNC Field anymore, every seat in the ballpark provides the supreme views and intimacy that make minor league baseball so special at incredibly affordable prices.  For more information, please visit the team's official website, www.swbrailriders.com, or call 570-969-BALL (2255).
