DAYTONA, Fla. -- Florida State League President Chuck Murphy announced today that Daytona Cubs right-fielder Jorge Soler has been suspended for five games and fined an undisclosed amount for his role in an on-field altercation after the seventh inning last night during Daytona's home game against the Clearwater Threshers.

Soler slid into second base and was landed on by Clearwater second baseman Carlos Alonso, who threw to first to complete an inning-ending double play in the bottom of the seventh inning. After a brief exchange between the two, Soler and Alonso went to their respective dugouts.

After returning to his dugout, Soler grabbed a bat and started towards the Clearwater dugout, before being restrained.

Several other players, who violated the on-field behavior policy by leaving their dugout during the altercation, also received undisclosed fines.
