(Fort Mill, SC) - Tyler Greene, who was in the midst of a four-game hit-streak for the Charlotte Knights, had his contract purchased by the Chicago White Sox earlier today. Greene becomes the second Knights player this week to be promoted to Chicago. Reliever Deunte Heath earned a promotion on Friday.
Greene replaces infielder Angel Sanchez, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list (lower back strain) by the White Sox today. Greene was hitting .265 (9-34) with seven runs scored, two doubles, four RBIs, and two walks over eight games played with the Knights this season. He was originally selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the first round (30th overall) in the 2005 draft.
To make room on the 40-man roster for Greene, Knights LHP Charlie Leesman was designated for assignment. Leesman had been on Charlotte's disabled list this season.
He went 12-10 with a 2.47 ERA for the Knights in 26 starts in 2012. The Ohio native finished second in the IL in ERA and was tied for third in wins with three other pitchers. He was named as an International League All-Star in 2012 and most recently named to the All Knights Stadium Team.
