Fort Wayne, IN - For the second time this season the Fort Wayne TinCaps found themselves down early, only to storm back and secure a win as Sunday they defeated the Lake County Captains, 5-4, at Parkview Field. Outfielder Brian Adams went 3-for-4 in the win, scoring twice and driving in a run. Fort Wayne won three out of the four-game set.

TinCaps starter Zach Eflin encountered some self-induced trouble in the first, walking the first two batters of the game. Both Luigi Rodriguez and Logan Vick, the recipients of those free passes, came in to score on a Nellie Rodriguez two-run single, giving Lake County (2-7) the early edge.

Fort Wayne (6-4) put its first run of the afternoon on the board in the third on a run-scoring groundout from Maxx Tissenbaum, to cut the Captains' edge to 2-1. In the sixth the TinCaps picked up three consecutive hits against Lake County reliever Dylan Baker (0-1), with the second of those three being an RBI double by Adams to tie the game. Adams came around to touch home on a bunt single by Alberth Martinez paired with a throwing error by Baker. That run gave the TinCaps a 3-2 lead.

That lead did not last long, though. Fort Wayne reliever Tayron Guerrero walked the bases loaded in the top of the seventh and then walked in the tying run, as he threw 27 pitches, but only seven of them for strikes.  Matthew Shepherd (1-0) put out Guerrero's fire, although he did permit one inherited runner to score, sending the game to the bottom of the seventh with Lake County on top, 4-3.

Gabriel Quintana singled home Corey Adamson in the seventh to tie the game at four, and Rodney Daal lofted a sacrifice fly to left in the eighth inning, bringing Adams home with the go-ahead run. Roman Madrid notched his second save of the year with a perfect ninth inning.

The TinCaps will enjoy an off day Monday, and then head to South Bend for the start of a three-game series on Tuesday. The first game of that series, scheduled for a 7:05 first pitch, is scheduled to feature Fort Wayne's Erik Cabrera on the hill against South Bend's Cody Wheeler. The game can be heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.
