Local learning center helps illustrate importance of reading

Savannah, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats are proud to have the support of Savannah Sylvan Learning Center for the 2013 Book Bugs year.

Savannah Sylvan Learning Center has helped over 12,000 students catch up and get ahead in school in the local area. With the 2013 Book Bugs Reading Program partnership, Sylvan is able to reach out to local families and schools to promote and encourage their learning services while the Sand Gnats are able to reward those students and families who take part in Book Bugs reading program.

The program allows teachers and schools to set reading goals for their students. There are four goals to represent the four bases on a baseball diamond. When a student reaches first base, they receive a bookmark complete with the Sand Gnats 2013 schedule. When they reach second base, they are rewarded with a Gnate the Gnat official baseball card. After reaching third base, they receive a coupon from Papa Murphy's Pizza for a free pizza making kit. The grand prize is a free ticket to a Sand Gnats baseball game.

When students complete the reading program, they attend one of the 18 Book Bugs nights chosen by their school. The students are congratulated with a pre-game parade on the field at Historic Grayson Stadium.
