Fort Wayne, IN - The Midwest League announced Monday that Fort Wayne TinCaps starting pitcher Joe Ross has been named the league's first Pitcher of the Week in the 2013 season. Ross has started the year earning victories in both of his starts, helping Fort Wayne to a 6-4 record to begin the season.
Ross, 19, has thrown 10 innings and allowed two hits, while walking two and striking out 12. He has yet to allow a run, and is holding opposing batters to a .063 average. Last season in six starts with the TinCaps, Ross went 0-2 with a 6.26 ERA. Since being selected 25th overall in the 2011 draft by San Diego, Ross has worked to a career mark of 2-4 with a 3.56 ERA in 18 games.
Ross is one of four first-round or supplemental first-round picks in Fort Wayne's starting rotation. He is joined by Max Fried (7th overall, 2012), Zach Eflin (33rd overall, 2012), and Walker Weickel (55th overall, 2012).
Fort Wayne opens a three-game series in South Bend Tuesday evening at 7:05 p.m.
